Emmett has over 50 years legal experience, with significant litigation experience in construction law, insurance litigation, product liability law, professional liability law, fidelity and surety law and toxic torts. He is also experienced in banking and real estate law. He has been awarded a rating of AV Prominent by Martindale-Hubbell, representing the highest possible rating by his peers in both legal ability and ethical standards. He is also the 2017 recipient of the Louisiana Bar Foundation's Boisfontaine Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy.

He has served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana in boundary litigation, State of Texas v. State of Louisiana, and Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act litigation, State of Louisiana v. Watt. He was appointed by the Supreme Court of Louisiana and served as a member of the Louisiana Task Force on Women in the Courts (1989-92). He has been a Certified Contract Advisor by the National Football League Players Association.

Emmett was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on August 10, 1943; Emmett and his wife Annette have three children and are members of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. He enjoys golf and skiing.

Member (President 2001-2003, Chairman 2004-present) of the Louisiana State Law Institute, an official advisory law revision commission, law reform and legal research agency of the State of Louisiana, has also served as Chairman/Reporter of the Special Advisory Committee on Attorney’s Fees, and as a member of the Son of Sam Committee, the Security Devices Committee, the Advisory Committee on Revision of Private Works Act and the Suretyship Revision Committee.
